TEMPORARY SUSPENSION OF WOODCUTTING IN EFFECT!
Due to extreme fire danger, the Fairbanks North Star Borough is suspending all firewood cutting on Borough-owned land effective immediately (July 1, 2022) and until further notice.
Thank you for doing your part to help prevent human-caused wild land fires by suspending your wood cutting activities.
TO APPLY FOR A PERSONAL USE WOODCUTTING LICENSE PLEASE SEE DESIGNATED WOODCUTTING AREAS LISTED BELOW. WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF SELECTING ADDITIONAL AREAS. PLEASE CHECK BACK WITH US PERIODICALLY FOR MORE INFORMATION.

Personal Use Firewood
Citizens of the Borough may purchase a license to cut firewood on Borough-owned lands at the Natural Resources Development office, located on the 2nd floor of the Juanita Helms Administration Center, by calling (907)459-1241, or emailing a request to Natural Resources Development (Please include your completed application form and if paying online, your credit card payment authorization form - scroll down for links to forms).
A Personal Use Extraction License (PUL) allows for:
- The taking of wood according to the allowance of your license.
- Can allow for up to 20 cords per person per year at $10 per cord, however some licenses may be restricted to fewer cords depending on availability.
Other locations may be opened at the discretion of the Division upon public request.
The Fairbanks North Star Borough's five year timber harvest schedule and voluntary plan of operation serves to identify and plan areas where commercial timber harvesting operations could take place on Borough owned lands.
Peede Road Extension -TEMPORARILY CLOSED
The Department of Natural Resources Development is closing the Peede Road Extension woodcutting area until further notice for inventory purposes. Please check back in at the end of June 2022 for status update. We thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
Located 1/3 mile East of the Peede and Brock Road intersection. Approximately 4 acres of spruce mix with some birch. Please BE AWARE of the power lines and do not cut outside of the flagged area. Extraction of dead and down, dead standing or live standing trees is permitted with a valid FNSB Personal Use License (PUL) for Woodcutting. This location has a maximum limit of 4 cords per licensee; renewal may be available at a later date depending upon availability. Personal Use Woodcutting Licenses are valid for one full year starting from the date of approval.
